Valvoline VR-1 is the only one I use in both my Stag and Vitesse 2 litre - superb 20/50 used for yank V8s, and widely available in the UK including by mail order...

Comma oil will be alright, the trick is to change it regularly along with the filter.

I have finally taken the plunge and will be following your advice, Russ. Bought 2 x 5-litres of VR-1 Mineral 20/50 the other day and will be changing the oil today.

Luckily I am well in with the manager of my local Eurocarparts. £15.99 for 5-litres! Just goes to show what a mark-up there is on this stuff. :X

Comma Classic (20W50)is a bona fide oil made to meetthe API specifications. As far as I am concerned it is a good oil and readily available.

I met one of the forum members at Brands and he knows someone who imports Lucas Oil which claims to meet API/SM/SL/SJ/CF

                http://www.lucasoil.co.uk/products.p...amp;product=70

He says its as good as Valvoline but priced more affordably; worth considering maybe?

Dave, if you have an Oil pressure gauge you'll be pleased with the pressure increase you see, especially hot at Idle

Good price as well, I got mine through a mate at a motor factors and still cost me £28.

I'm thinking of using Castrol Edge 10W-60 full Synthetic oil. Engine has just completed a full rebuild about 2,000km ago. Currently running a mineral oil 15W-50. Appreciate any comments and advice.

I like Valvoline VR1 20/50 too as it seems to improve the oil pressure slightly. Can be a bit pricey but I just bought 2 x 5 litres off ebay for £50.00 delivered.

No where near as cheap as Dave's £15.99 but the cheapest I could find at the time and I have another 5 litres ready for the next change

I wouldn't use a synthetic oil though as I don't believe the tolerances a 70's Leyland engine was manufactured too warrant synthetic oil. Much prefer regular changes with a mineral oil.

Castrol Edge is a good oil as I use this in the wifes V8 X5 and the engine is still very good after 118K.

I am thinking mainly from a oil performance, durability aspect particularly in our hot summers in Sydney. I would still change the oil every 3,00 miles so I am not trying to extend oil changes. The Viscosity of 10W-60 I would have thought would be okay with a Stag engine newly rebuilt as the hot viscosity of 60 is greater than 20W-50.It is not using oil with 15W-50 so at the cold end I am hoping 10W would also be okay.

In regard to engine tolerances it is the viscosity which I understand to be important so expect10W-60 to be okay except maybe at the cold end?

I'm about to do a service..... what's the matter with this?

It's oil for classic cars at a reasonable price. There's even what looks to be a Stag on the front!!

i don't think there is anything wrong with it..... isn't it repackaged Millers oil ? but if you can get VR1 for the same money (as Dave can !) that would be even better

I've got a Halfrauds trade card so it will be a fair bit less than the £15.99 quoted. I was just checking it will be OK.
