beam deflectors

Hi all

I am off to the Le mans Classic early hours of tomorrow morning and just wondering what you guys do about beam deflectors, I was thinking of taping up the lights with black insulation tape,but not sure exactly where to tape up, if anyone can post a diagram I would be grateful.

You can buy "beam benders" at virtually any motorist's shop and stick them on, and remove them when you get back. You should be O.K. in France I presume but the Spanish have just changed the law and outlawed "beam benders" on imported cars, and I have just had to buy new RHD headlamps for the wife's Honda. Fortunately my Stag has American dip lights on it and it's just passed its local MOT.

Black insulation tape works ok. I bought a Lucas branded sheet years ago and you had to cut out the particular shape for your lights which was marked on the sheet.

I have used the same ones for about 7 years now - not that I am a cheapskate but they just keep sticking back on ok.

I don't have a decent picture but hopefully you can make out where they fit on original lights.They kind of go exactly the opposite place you would expect. If you look at the light it is clear from the lense pattern exactly where it goes.

When I worked, we had a small fleet of trucks that went regularly to France. I booked out a fleet car to take to France on a work trip and asked the transport manager for the beam deflectors. He said "the day you see a French, German or any other continental car in England with beam deflectors fitted, is when they go on my vehicles".

You know, I always look at the foreign cars in Kent, and I'm blowed if I can spot the beam deflectors!

Anyway, I'm in The Dordogne, and haven't got deflectors fitted, nobody seems to have noticed.
