    Rusty underside

Still not sold my Tiger, so no proper prospect of buying a Stag but I am keeping an eye out for any that look like what I am after.

    There is one on ebay at the moment that appears quite solid and, out of interest, I had the guy send me some pics of any rusty areas. These are what he sent ;

So on the one above, which cross member is it? Does that look bad? Are those actual cracks in the floor pan?

    [img][img]

On the one above and below, are those floor pan cracks? Are they bad enough to require serious work / new pans?

I won't be able to pursue this one but I would be reallly grateful for future cars, to hear what people think about what the pictures show.

          Hi

The underside looks like mine did when I first got it, that was very solid once i had cleaned all the underseal off.

A few hours cleaning treating and painting it would be fine looking at those photo's.

hi guys, thanks for these posts, i learn a lot. the underside of mine is very similar, but without the welding, wards had a look at mine and said it was solid, needs stripping and sealing, they advised me to wax then winter job for the rest

Thanks to everyone who so far has responded.

In fairness the seller said that the underside just needed undersealing and, as I havent been ubder a Stag, I couldn't decide if what looked like cracks actually were just joints.

Does the outrigger joint look ok or not?

Its the other end of the outrigger you need to look at where it meets the inner cill due to crud being sprayed at it off the wheels.

                  Cheers Steve

                    Lol...nothing wrong with being blunt!

I should say it's a Tiger Cat and not a Tiger which are obviously radically different cars!

So my Tiger Cat is up for £4500ono, which is £250 down from when I first put it up for sale about 3 weeks ago.

As stagdad says it's the other side of the outrigger that is the achilies heal, I'm no expert by any means but ask him for a picture of where it joins into the inner sill.

Just think where this has led me, I was the victim of a cleverly disguised underside. It looked 100% better than the pictures that you have been sent and mechanics had commented on how good the underside looked. A load of heartache later, a ridiculous carry on with a body shop, and now in the hands of a solicitor.

My advise to you is walk away, don't be hasty one will turn up that will float your boat mate. I may be out of order but this is my opinion

Hi, The worst place on mine was under the back seat where the sound deadning was glued on the inside and had cracked with age. being a convertible it has got wet and retained the moistureinside and slowly rusted from the inside out, like a calender. A car restorer friend made me a new piece of floor section as originalwhich I migged in and undersealed inside ond out.

                        Cheers Ian A

It would be great Stagdad if you had a pic of the outriger (good and bad).

Moray...as mentioned I am not in a position to buy this Stag (or any Stag) yet, it was just for some info really mate. Is there a thread I can rewad about what you found in yours?

                            Hello Ian.

I had read that was one place to check. How do you get the seat out to look - I can imagine the prospective sellers look of horror as I start to dismantle any car I go to see!!

The rear seat must be just about the easiest bit of a Stag to remove

Just lift up the front edge and pull forwards. It'ssimply a push fit (Until someone comes on here and tells me I'm wrong :?)

A genuine seller, with nothing to hide, shouldn't mind that, nor pulling back carpets as much as possible - maybe drawing the line at the glued pieces.

                              Cheers
