    Plastic Door Handle

I recently bought a plastic door handle from Flea-Bay, I won't name the dealer until I see what response I get, but after sending an email to confirm that the handle I was buying was for the n/s or passenger door, it p**sed me off when I removed my door handle today, only to find it's for the o/s handle. It was advertised as LH, hence my e-mail, as I am used to n/s or o/s. I noticed on the old broken handle that there is a steel pin that operates the door mechanism but on the new handle it doesn't have one. These can't be removed as they are a pressed fit. Does anyone know do you have to buy these pins seperately?

Hi John, my memory isn't especially brilliant, but I replaced my door handles a couple of years ago and recall swapping the pins over from the old to the new. Don't seem to recall any particular problem swapping them over.

Simon, I can remove the main pin that holds the handle and spring no problem, but it is the smaller pin that actually works the door mechanism that is the problem. It looks like it is put into the hole in the handle then the end is pressed flat so it can't be removed. I'll try put a picture on tomorrow that will explain better.

Hi John, John Parker of the Stag Owners Club NZ has redesigned and had made some exterior Stag door handles made.( look original) They are designed to be either hand and are superior to what Triumph fitted new. I believe they are availible in the UK but I don't know from whom. I hope this may help.

I won't pass on John Parker's email address but if you go to Trademe.co.nz our (superior) version of Ebay and search on Triumph Stag - You'll find Stag parts listed by Henrystag that's John's company.

I have John's handles and they are great. There is a bit of playing around in order to get them in but they are far superior to the plastic ones. I believe Wards do them but cannot be certin. Get them from NZ as I did. That way you're certain.

Got a reply back from supplier and they say the bins must have been mixed up. If I post the handle back they will send the proper n/s handle. So it costs me more money because of their screw up. Still not sure how to replace the pin in the handle - anyone done this before on a mk1 door? This is the pin that goes onto the plastic handle, it is peened over at one end and at the other it has a plastic sleeve that goes inside a bracket that moves the lever to open the door. In the picture it's not the pin in the centre but the one at the lower left of the picture. You can see the white plastic sleeve at the opposite side of the pin.
