Pospective Stag Owner - engine differences?

I;m just doing my research into stags.



My uncle had one when I was a kid 25 yrs ago and I;ve wanted one since, I;m getting some cash later this yr from an inheritance and fancy a stag.

I'm going to actually drive one next week



One question Ild like answer for is what is the difference between the original triumph engine and the Rover engine thats often used? whats the pros and cons of each?



I;ve also seen differences mentioned between mk1 and mk2. Whish is the more desirable?

I will give you the unbiased opinion (I have had both and no axe to grind).

Cars with the orignal engine tend to be worth more unless the Rover conversion is very well done (some are shoddy). The original engine is very sweet, but needs to be in good condition,get it inspected by a specialist, and prefto have history showing timing chains were replaced within last 25k.Walk away if there are any untoward noises. The Rover engine is quite tough, and perhaps easier/less expensive to maintain.

Mk1 and Mk2 are similar; but Mk1s are usually tax exempt, rarerso may be worth a bit more.

Although I'm not a big fan of it (it's a bit too American for me ), you could do worse than get the recently published Triumph Stag (Essential Buyer's Guide).

Amazon have now got it for less than £6.
