    choke cable

It always happens when you talk your car up to a non Triumph person!!

Had a mate come around to view the new Stag with me telling him how great it is.

We jump in and i pull the choke lever....that then proceeds to pull out completely from the dash.

Im left looking at the choke with a few strands of cable attached to the end..and my mate wetting himself with laughter.

I have run a search and see there is a thread regarding choke levers with a grub screw, mine has no grub screw.

My question is: can this be repaired or am i looking at a purchase of complete choke cable with lever? Or do i have other options?

    Thanks, Glen.

    This made me laugh.

I had exactly the same experience but the friend in my case was my wife! Already on the backlash from the old "Do what you want" trick, I also broke the choke cable on its maiden run forgetting to push the accelerator first.

I am afraid it is a new cable and knob for you. Not so expensive and easy to fit. It was probably on the wayout anyhow so best to fit it sooner than later

    Happy stagging

      Thanks Swisssteve,

Have ordered a new complete choke cable and lever.

I didnt realise until i had reason to search the forum that you need to depress the accelerator before pulling the choke.

God i love the quirks these cars have!!

It's not in the handbook as far as I know. Problem arises because the choke cable for the LH carb operates a cam that acts against the throttle screw to raise the revs. If this is dry then it puts a lot of strain on the cable which will eventually snap. Not only are they expensive, but a PITA to fit.

The answer is to grease the cam/screw head and always depress the accelerator pedal slightly whilst pulling out the choke.

Looks like the PO of my car didn't observe this as the LH choke cable is rather worse for wear. I have another one ready, but haven't found the time (or inclination) to fit it yet. No doubt one day it will let go..............
