    side lights/hooter/dash lights

I have an intermittant problem with the lights. Nearside front and rear side lights, along with the dash display illumination and hooter (which I believe are all on the same circuit?). They all go off intermittantly, but sods law when I want to check them they are all OK.

Any advice how to find the problem whilst they are working, or do I have to wait until the fault shows itself again? I hardly ever use the car during dark, but last night driving for about an hour - started off with the fault but they popped back on after about 30 minutes!

sounds like an earthing fault but check the relevant fuse in the engine bay fuse box and make sure the contacts are clean and firm on the fuse.you really need a wiring diagram to follow the earth route for the lines you have a fault on.

Likely to be a fuse/fuse boardproblem as all these items are through the same fuse together with your number plate lights

See attached diagram which may help.

just a quick thought but is the terminal on your fuse box OK - on my car the terminal was dodgy and things cut in and out - I wired in a small lucas two fuse holder to overcome the problem as no one makes thee fuse holder now and a s/h replacement is the only option.

        good luck

I had a variety of strange electrical problems when I got my stag so one of the first things I did was take all the fuses out and wire brush all the fuse contacts - and the metal ends of the fuses. Followed that with a short squirt of switch cleaner oil, replaced all the fuses, and all the electrical problems disappeared. I also bought a cover for the fuse box and now make sure it stays on to keep things clean.

I may have been lucky but that's where I'd start. John

            Thanks for the replies.

I have now traced the fault to either fuse 3 or 4 (not sure which, as i fiddled with both, and the side light popped on).

But I am not sure how to fix the problem permenantly, and i also wondered if this problem could be causing the battery to discharge?
