They're fingers Alan,

Most people are born with them and they're used for a various of things mainly undoing/ tightening up nuts and bolts.

At a guess I would say 56 years old

Correct! elegant solution to a problem you never knew you had. Rather than one of those wooden sticks with a sucker on each end that you can buy for £1.50you simply keep turning the handle in the same directionand this beauty, like magic, turns the shaft round one turn then back about 3/4 of a turn. Thereby giving t he perfect grind. Given to me years ago I have never used it, I prefer one of those wooden sticks with a sucker on each end. I'm guessing but from the look of it it could be pre WW2
