Tow bar wiring

I have just fitted a tow bar to my Mk2 in readines to take my caravan to this year's National weekend.

When I plug in the caravan electrics, the stop and side lights are fine but the indicators work rapidly and weakly. If I operate the Hazard Warning switch, the caravan indicators work together (as they should) and at normal intensity.

What do I need to get the caravan indicators working normally?

It's usually something to do with the earth on towing connectors.

I haven't got a shed booked in though Keith

You need to change the Fasher unit in the car and fit one that can cope with the extra lights, have a look on ebay

I'm booked into a local Caravan Club site, 'er indoorsneeds electrics.

I haven't received anything from you yet re Fontwell although I sent off my application and cheque ages ago.

I bought one of these on Ebay the other day and it works well. Haven't tried it with a caravan/trailer but it's rated at 20A so should work well. You just have to add the earth wire. John

Hi Keith,

I fitted an electronic flasher unit that was specifically for towing.Only extra wiring neededwasto fit an earth wire although it has extra terminals for warning lights or buzzers.

Bought it from Halfords for about £12 ( I think) and it has worked perfectly. Cured the slow flashing problem you get with the original unitat idle speed as well.
