Hi can anyone shed any light as to why my Stag keeps stopping, when the car is warm after so long it just stops, it sometimes starts straight away other times it take a few turns on the key then it starts. I have put new fuel filters in, new fuel pump, all seems OK fuel is not restricted in any way checked all that. Fitted new rotor arm, dissy cap, new coil and leads, I have not changed the electronic ignition. It seems to be just an intermitant fault but can I find it no, any help would be nice, or would it be best to take her to an auto electrictian to see if they can find the fault, has run fine up until now thanks. Will

Was there a lot of crud in the fuel filters when you changed them?
Im thinking if there was, some of it might have found its way down to the carbs, blocking the needle valve causing trouble, when the car stops all the crud sinks backto the bottom again which allows the car to start again untill it sucks the crud up for a repeat performance. If this was the case I would think you would experience a bit of coughing and spluttering before stopping completely.

Mark, no crud in tank or filter as the tank is new and all fuel lines are new. I just changed them as I am trying to eliminate each thing, the only other part that I have not changed it the electronic ignition, there could be an intermitant fault in part of the wiring maybe? Will

Hi Will,
Not an easy one to pin down, and you can spend a lot of money replacing things that didn't need replacing!!
For what it's worth, I had the exact symptoms starting with the rev counter needle flicking as the engine cut out and straight back in, and it was the optical eye in the dizzy that was giving up. It then used to go perfect for 200 miles, then stop four times in a mile for no obvious reason. It concentrated my mind when it cut out in the middle lane of the MI in the rush hour!!
It would be good to borrow an optical eye (or maybe Paddocks/LD Parts sell them) to prove the point, and I have a good spare lumenition box if you wish to try that to eliminate the box - just let me know.
hope this helps,
Peter f

Another thing to check is the main battery fuse second one in from the left looking from the front of the car, take the fuse out and checkthe rivets that hold theclips aretight. These have given me problems in the past especially if it's damp.Hi can anyone shed any light as to why my Stag keeps stopping, when the car is warm after so long it just stops, it sometimes starts straight away other times it take a few turns on the key then it starts.
