    Project Stag

    Hi All

Lois and I have agreed a plan to get the next Stag that she will drive everyday to work except for Weekends when I will have it and she can drive my company car to work.

I have placed my Kawasaki on the for sale section with a link to my e bay auction, I will also be selling some other items once we have taken the pictures.

The plan is to buy a Magenta Auto Stag for around £5K and then convert to Stagdad WP and service it before putting into daily use.

We will then sell her Peugeot 306 1.8 16V Meridian for around £1500 (Only 55K Miles)

The hopefully we will endeavour to be like Terry and have a happy long term ownership of a Stag in our favourite colour and upgrade as we can afford to ZF box etc

Sound like a plan to me Stuart

I thinking of doing something similar, selling my modern to buy another classic and use both as daily drives

Have got your eye on 1 at the moment

Yes this is the one I want but need to raise the funds, it has been for sale for ages so might be able to knock him down a bit

Good luck with your plans - hope the future gives you as many happy Stag motoring moments as I have had, and that any problems are just little ones. A stag does like the Sun you know - you could always consider emigrating as I seem to have had fewer problems since I moved to a warmer climate, and of course you wouldn't have to lay it up for the Winter - as there isn't one!

Yes exactly just wish I had the funds now so I could do just that.

The problem with Magenta is there only a handful auto's in good enough condition left so when one comes up for sale you need to snap it up (if you have the funds!).

The best Magenta IMO Stag in the country belongs to Paul on the forum who one last years concours competition.

sounds like a good plan - Karen has use of 2 classics as her daily driver, either the Stag or her Mini Cooper. Stag stays in the garage if there is salt on the road and the Mini has to put up with that. the one thing people forget is the lack of depreciation that you save over a modern car and cheaper insurance and parts so you win on all fronts. Glad to see you are getting another one.

                        Hi Stu

Good luck with your plan, I hope you pull it off.

I am probably teaching you to suck eggs but as a daily driverit simply won't be as reliable as a modern car. If you use a car daily for work it must start when you get in it very single time. A 35+ year old car just won't do that.

What contingency plan will you have in place if your wife calls you whilst you at work and says "the Stag has broken down"? This happens with our GT6 from time to time. I am fortunate that I only work ten minutes away from where I live and can pop out to sort the issue. The fall back plan is that I walk to work and Su uses the Nissan until the GT6 is sorted of whatever is ailing it. Most recent problem was the clutch hydraulics. It was off the road forfour days whilst I waited for the parts to arrive and then time after work to fit them.

Gresley uses his as a daily but if it has a problem is uses his back up car (2500 estate). Others on here use Stags as dailys but how many of them are retiries and don't have a full time job?

Iam not trying to put a dampener, just make sure you have all the bases covered if SWMBO is involved.

                        Good luck

                        Bruce

                          Hi Bruce

Yes you are right and we may keep the Peugeot as back up if we can save up the full amount and we have our finances in good shape before putting the Stag into service this will be the plan A - Plan B she will have to use my car and I work from home etc that day

Thanks Stu. Pauls Magenta Stag looks amazing.

I think I would prefer a manual, but would have an auto - Magenta or French Blue- if the car was right.

Overall if the manual box reliable?...I think I have read that people upgrade the standard auto box.

I think the only issue with the manual box is the clutch mechanism. Later ones seem to be better, some people have problems and some seem to be fine. The standard auto box is a bit low geared ( ithink most will agree) which is why I went for a manual. Drove a few autos though and that would be my only critsism. ZF conversion is probably the best of both worlds if you can afford it.
