Kenlowe Fan Switch Wiring

I have a Kenlowe 2000 series fan fitted to my Stag and in view of the recent hot weather decided that I would like to fit a manual override switch to be able to switch the fan on when things start getting a bit hot. I've bought a Kenlowe KLM0570 switch and fitted it this morning although I cannot get it to work.

Unfortunately the wiring diagram that came with my fan is for a positive earth vehicle. I connected the green wire coming out of the fan control unit to the middle of the switch. I then connected the positive terminal of the switch to a spare terminal behind the fusebox above the passenger side shelf (hopefully the +ve ignition controlled fused supply). The yellow wire from the fan control unit is already connected here. The switch earth terminal was then connected to a screw on the metal heater box. Could somebody tell me what I have done wrong.

As you can probably tell I'm not an auto electrician and so a non techy reply would be greatly appreciated. I've looked through previous posts on kenlowe fans and they don't seem to cover this.

It's very easy to fit a simple over-ride switch - your car has probably got one fitted already! It's the hardtop heated rear window switch!

Take a good thick cable from the output of the HRW switch - use a piggyback connector - leaving the existing cable on the switch. Use the other end of your new cable to the output of your Kenlowe switch.

When the Kenlowe switch gets hot, it will apply power to the fan and also, via your new cable, to the HRW warning light below the HRW switch.

If you feel things are likely to get hot - in the exit queue at a show for example - pull the hRW switch so applying power to the fan relay.
