          Hi Gats,

I have just bought an oil gauge kit and 'T' piece from Rimmers so tomorrows mission is to fit that. I am going to put the gauge where the clock is. It isn't original anyway. I am a little disapointed with the gauge though, the bezel isn't a match for the standard Stag Gauges.:? as long as it works!.

In answer to your other question, mine is a manual.

Not sure if I am going to tackle it from the top or bottom, but my first car was a mini so I am used to getting spanners into confined spaces!

(Reading Koys reply you won't have to drain the oil so thats a job less to do!)

Couldn't agree more .If i had known what it was like i would have got one of the many smiths gauges off ebay (It was one of my first spares purchases after buying the car and foolishly i thought if i went to a big supplier i would get top bits:?).But having spent the money i used my broken clock's bezel and managed to fit it over the rimmer gauge .

Doesn't look too bad .Note fuel gauge has chrome bezel whilst all the rest are blacked out .

Thanks for the tip, I will have a look and see if I can do something with my clocks bezel. The clock is still working so I might leave it in one piece though to give me the option of puting it back at some point. A future option is to mount the pressure gauge under the dash and put the clock back. At the moment I just want to have (Hopefully) piece of mind that my engine is healthy. (I still haven't cured my 'occasional screeching noise' problem mentioned elsewhere and i am still trying to eliminate possible problems.).

                  Hi Guys,

Got to admit that I've just had to redo my transfer housing, as there was a slight seep from it when the engine was running. I ended up working underneath the car, removing the front exhaust pipe, spin on oil filter and oil filter adapter. Access was a breeze after that! I had pinched the larger "O"ring when I installed it from the top.

Got to go now, the sun is shining, time for a drive!

                  regards,

                  Raoul

                    Hi GATS/Paul,

Mission accomplished! I put the gauge, T piece and tubing in yesterday. All went according to plan. I did the whole thing from the top and didn't have to dismantle the car to get at it, although as mentioned elsewhere, you are working blind. I did disconnect the Brake servo vacum hose to make it a bit easier to get my arms in though. Trouble is, I initially forgot to reconnect it.. I had real trouble starting it and it was hissing very loudly until I worked out what I had done!:?.

I am going to stick with the gauge I have bought but, I had a poke around on the internet for oil presure gauges, It appears that you can get them with just about any look, apart from the one to match the Stag!

Smiths dials are now manufactured by a company called Caerbont Automotive Instruments, based in Wales. ( http://www.caigauge.com ) They do still manufacture a 'Classic' range of instruments.

All of the suppliers sites I have been looking at show a magnolia coloured dial face but I did find this pic on an American site http://www.gaugeguys.com/Smiths/Authentic/classic.htm It has a full chrome bezel but I am sure with some skill and patience it could be painted to match the black/Chrome Stag design. ($94.48)

I fitted an oil pressure gauge from a late TR6, it is a perfect match with the Mk 2 Stag instruments. I got it off e-bay.

Mine came with a TIM oil gauge. Several years ago I found an exact match for my Mk1 gauges on an autojumble stand at a car show for £2. I will be going to Stoneleigh in a couple of weeks. I expect there to be some there.
