    Half Shafts

    I can't remember if the half shafts from a 2000/2500 MK2 are the same dimensions as the Stag MK2 Half shafts?:?

    Does anyone know if they are as with Prescott coming up in May and all of the comments about half shafts snapping I might invest in some spare ones from a 2500 MK2.

      I have done some checking and the Halfshafts are the same on the MK2 2000 range as the Stag.

        Hi Stuart

        Having gone through this pain, dont wish any one else to. our cars are blessed with two types of half shaft u/js. With a circlip holding the bearing buckets in and ones that have the u/js body peened over to locate the buckets and yokes within the carrier.

        The latter are of smaller diameter, less surface area to conduct the turning forceand hense will fail earlier. Also on assemble they can only be truly centralised on a jig, not easily done by us in our garrages.

        If you can get hold of the former type (with circ clips)hang on to them. Simple to replace u/js using a press or decent vice.

        I have recently purchased the GKN ones from monarch , ( missed the ones off ebay you told me about by £5.00). My advice is dont bother with second hand ones bite the bullet and by the GKN's. £300 for the pair, but they are new not refurbed ones that are going round with worn splines. But do make sure your yokes are of the split pin type.

          Shame you missed out on the E bay one's! If I'm not mistaken the none circlip type halfshafts where only fitted to MK1 stags and your right they have to be replaced and balanced professionally unless you want the rear end to spit you off the road into the nearest ditch!

          I have got the circlip type on my MK2 stag and agree with you the GKN one's are the one's to go forif you can.

          All I need to do is convince SWMBO that we really really need these items before Prescott!

              Yes I have seen them and have been watching them for a while but haven't really got the money at the moment!

              Why do things always appear for salejust when you haven't got the money?:X
