    Stag Vehicle Information needed

    I have my next appointment for state vehicle permission of my UK imported Stag on Wednesday (after not having passed first attempt).

    Still desperately looking for a document indicating:
    -> Stag noise levels
    -> Stag load per axe
    -> Confirmation that BL punched no chassis numbers into the frame, and the only number was the one on the tag in the door frame

    Yes these are the questions that our registration depends upon in Austria, and I know this is surprising for UK owners.

    I tried all to collect this information here in Austria but without success so far.

    Most of the info you need is in the ROM apart from the noise levels, although i always thought the louder the better

      I would think that a copy of a German Registration Document would satisfy the Austrians as they have a lot of reciprocal agreements. pm me if you want and I can scan my log book - would need your eMail to send it to you.

        Thank you Drew (English ? German ?) that would be a great help.
        However it is important that the copy is well readable, and
        - car make, type, and first registration year are well readable
        - noise level measurement and related units are readable
        - "Achslastverteilung" is well readable
        Ideal would be a full copy of the booklet, including explanation of the used codes (if any) and referrals to any norms.
        I am mentioning this because I had received a not so good copy from another German Stagger that can only be read with lots of phantasy, and the authority said this is generally what they need, but must be a readable document.

          Regards chassis no. - I bought a "punch" set containing letters and numbers (not dear) , and punched the chassis number into the body underneath the bonnet by the top of the shock absorbers using a hammer after scraping the paint off first. I did it both sides and then showed it to the Spanish examiner and he was happy with that.

            Thanks loads Gary. actually I do have the manual, and extracted all information which was accepted. However the axel loads and the noise levels are not included (and expensive to measure), and this is why they sent me home.
            I am a bit concerned of noise level measurement, since I have a special stainless exhaust collector that follows ignition sequence, which produces nice power but also some noise.

              Thank you Terry. This seems to be a quite convenient way to do it, and I have received message from several Staggers that they did the same. I might also do this, as a back up, to retro-legalize my relationship to the Lady.

                      If somebody should still follow this:
                      My efforts to register my Stag were not very successful. After some engine analysis work in a nearby workshop (quite frustrating compression, from 90 to 110 PSI, which explains the 1/2 pint of oil she drinks on 100 mls) , on the way back home the differential blocked ... no oil inside ... which would have been the next on the list, after a few weeks of ownership. This Stag is just falling apart faster that I can deal with the tests and repairs. Looked so shiny outside, but what a mess inside ...
                      Not sure where to go from here ....

                        Hi Andreas

                        Sorry to hear about your troubles so far but don't give up as all the best things in life are normally hard to achieve and a reliable stag is no exception :?

                        My advice is to list all the jobs you would like to do - set yourself a schedule over the winter months and just think next spring you will have a flawless, reliable Triumph Stag

                        As for the diff as long as you have not cooked the bearings i would recommend you take it off the car, not to hard, remove the backplate and flush out the case, check the c/wheel & pinionfor any damage the c/wheel bearings are easy to change but the bearing for the drive shafts is harder as you have to press it off - see other threads on the forum for advice.

                        All in all not to hard a job so don't despair

                          es tut mir leid, daß Du bei der Registrierung nicht erfolgreich warst und so viele technische Probleme hast.
