    Door outer weather strips

Has anyone got any experience of fitting the door outer weather strips? Both of mine are not attached at the front, and as I intend to drive the car as my daily driver I am a little worried about water getting into the doors. Is it easy with the right tool?

    Regards

I have a similar problem and have put it off. I believe you have to attack this from inside the door, so it's card off and everythingg dismanntled so that you can get your hand up to the door edge.

Others may know better......I sure hope so.

Do you mean the horizontal chrome strip that runs along the top of the door? Mine sometimes shifts up with the electric window, but its not top of my list at the moment.

Mine (new) are attached, and water still gets in the doors! They keep most of it out, but they're nothing like as good as modern windows/seals.

I think with the door card off and window up 2 people could do it without dismantling itany further.

I did it on my own but it would be easier with 2.

            Hi Gresley

I did this job recently on my own, if you put a cotton rag round the end of a screw driver you can lever the chrome strip up without damaging the paint.

After this I replaced the rubber seal (measure up against door before cutting to length) after this replace any clips which have fallen down inside the door or have broken by removing the doorcard and reaching up inside the door.

This done blind most of the time and by feel but quite easy once you've got the hang of it!:?

After all this has been done carefully place the strip back and then with your hand back up inside the door push the clips home! This is where you really do need 2 people but if you're really lucky the strip clicks into place if not start cursing:X

Good Luck and done forget to waxoyl the door when you've finished and may be do the door card whilst it's off!

              Hi Brian

There is a tool you can get from Rimmers (if you look in the new yellow catalogue)

I think you can do it without taking the doorcard off but with the window down. I made a similar tool from a wire coat hanger, just need to get the shape right. You need to hold the weather strip in situ and pull the clips up from inside. Make sure the clip goes over the door and strip together.

              Cheers.

              Paul.

                Brian,

Make yourself a tool from a piece of thin steel as per my diagram. Trim fitting can thenbe done without removing any trim. Just wind the window down.

Thanks for all the help everyone - its good to see its not just my car that needs this job doing! Thanks for the diagram Dave, I'll make the tool and have go. I think the seals are in good condition, its just that the chrome is not attached at the front.

I have done this job a few times and never really had any trouble, I didn't know there was a tool for it. If you remove the door panel, wind the window up, you will be able to retrieve the missing clips from the bottom of the door and just push them back on with one hand while holding the trim in place with the other. If replacing the weather strip, which is not expensive, S.O.C. spares cut it from a roll, always cut it slightly longer,it usually shrinks after a while.

                      Hi Bob

The tool is part no. RX1562 Weatherstrip CLip Fixing Tool it is shown in the tools section of the Rimmers new catalogue page 157.

It certainly makes the job easier. I find it's better to use new clips aswell.

                        Hello
Sorry for dragging up an old thread!
I am in process of rebuild my Stag doors – window motors, locks etc. – and been searching through old posts regard the sealing of the quarter light frame to the door skin.
As I understand, the weather strip (622415) is not intended to go full length of the door. It should be cut to width of window.
Best way to seal the quarter light frame is using ‘Mastick’ or similar sealant for water tight seal.
                        This still my best option?
                        Thanks
