    Paint mismatch

I've never had a car come back from a bodyshop on the original planned date so I thought my Stag's current visit was going too well. I have had the bonnet replaced and the new one needed painting to match the car. At 10am this morning they confirmed all was in hand for a 4pm collection, at 12 this changed to telling me my cars paint has been lacquered and doesn't match the colour on the bonnet. They are now painting the wing tops to match, if I can't get the car today (day spent at home waiting) then I can't get it until next week as I'm working over the weekend

Ian I can sympathise with you have just recently gone through a 3 x month saga with a supposed classic car restoration company. To be honest there is no reason now why they can't match paints correctly or so I've been told.

Feel sorry for you Ian. I know nothing about paint matching really and hope it all works out

They've just confirmed they won't finish today, great, I didn't go into work so I could collect the car. Now it looks like Tuesday will be earliest.

Its disappointing Ian but at least it wont be two tone when you get it back and they were honest.

i had the same thing with a respray of a bonnet - the green in the car turns out to be neither BRG or Brooklands (so the sprayer says) - so he took it over the top of the wings............. to be fair the guy has done a decent job and it looks OK until you look at the car from and angle - so its going to have to be a complete respray..................... what "fun".... I mean what other green can it be??????

                  Know what you mean.

My Carmine Stag suffers from micro-blistering. There was also some paint reaction on the bonnet. Just over a year ago I took it into a paint shop to have the bonnet stripped, small dents removed from the top of each front wing, and a respray of these parts. I knew that the paint was darker than standard Carmine, but he managed a reasonable job of matching it.

However this year I noticed several cracks in the paint, which got worse the more the car was left out in hot sunshine. Took it back and had a word with the painter last month and, fair enough, he promised to sort it out. When he started to sand through the paint it was like cutting through a tree trunk. We lost count of the number of coats the front wings had. At lease 5 coats of Carmine, separated by primers, bar-coats, etc.

However, he did strip the front wings andfront panel, as well as flatting down the bonnet again. He thenpainted it really well. Problem is he has used the correct Carmine Red, so the front end is now a few shades lighter than the rest of the car.

Guess what will be happening this winter?

Please, no comments at National Weekend about my two-tone Stag :P

When I had the rear wings on mine resprayed last year the painter found that there are five shades of Russett Brown...Luckily he mixed a bit of each one until he found the best match. It is Ok unless you look really closely
