    Payen Head Gaskets

Just received a newsletter from Peter at LDPart. Guess what? Payen (Federal Mogul) have rendered the Stag as obsolete and have stopped making our head gaskets!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter, being the man he is, has already found an alternative which, he says, will do the same job. I hope so...........

Same newsletter says he now has new distributor base plates in stock. These have been NLA for years.

I thought we kept Payen in business! There are alternatives but many of us use Payen as original and supposedly the best. Time to stock up methinks.

I got some from Tony Hart a while back, they had a red silicone bead around the edge of the gasket, when I queried this Tony told me genuine Payenhad been likethis for years, and it was not unknown for people to sell alternatives under the Payen name. What type have you got?

I thought tooStag's had to be the main source of Business for the classic market come on Payen I have used your gaskets for yearsthink of the classics eh? It does pay dividends along the line

Quote Directly from the email sent fromPeter from LD PARTSif you haven't seen it already!

We have now been told by three separate sources that Payen have stopped making Stag cylinder Head Gaskets

Payen is a brand owned by Federal Mogul and the UK Sales team of Federal Mogul have told us Stag Head Gaskets are obsolete.

We do not buy direct, but I have nevertheless had several conversations with Federal Mogul about getting tooling support etc and they are simply not interested.

We also had the same information coming back from our suppliers. Two suppliers one for standard and one for extra thick both of whom have turned down our orders.

We are advised there are still a few head gaskets in Payen Gasket Sets and even some single gaskets out in the field.

As a result we are now offering a new aftermarket Extra Thick Head Gasket. They are made by a British Gasket Firm who make gaskets for Vehicle Manufacturers and the aftermarket. They look great and have the famous RED LATEX line.

We are content they will be fine in service. We think BGA is the new Payen

              BACK TO BASE PLATES!

Yes thanks to Mike Fisher and SOCTFL who have approved LDpart for distribution of this product we now have UK manufactured Lucas Style distributor Base Plate sets on offer.

For a good few years now Lucas Base Plate sets for twin points distributors have been unavailable.

This usually doesn?t matter as fitting Lumenition or Pertronix Eletronic Modules, irons out the instability of points running on worn base plates.

However there are two circumstances where it is an issue.

First, it is a complete nightmare for those owners who want to stay with points.

Secondly it is allegedly an even worse situation for those owners who changed to Piranha Electronic Ignition

The Piranha Electronic Ignition set up for Stag included a new base plate, and guess what, you cannot retro fit points or other Electronic systems to the Piranha Electronic Ignition Base Plate because it is a single flat plate.

So this is fine as long as it works. The snag is that the Piranha Electronic Ignition product was discontinued in 2006 when the company that was effectively Lumenition, took it all over.

              Simple Base Plate set

So if your points set up is performing poorly or if you have a Piranha Electronic Ignition system installed you can again buy a new and correctly functioning base plate set. Just type ?Base Plate? in the search box at http://www.LDpart.co.uk

frankly this is a blow! AIUI payen gaskets were not original equipment but only because bean counters made triumph use inferior gaskets. The BGA gaskets. Certainly look to be a quality product but currently they are only available in thick. That probably means its not worth them gearing up to make standard gaskets as well. Surely this is something soctfl should have been involved in, suppliers are supposed to contact soctfl if availability of a part is lost but clearly none of them thought to do so.

                kly this is a blow!

No a blow as in a punch or being hit with something. The other "generally available" aternative gaskets are rubbish, one I had didn't seal at all, had I filled the engine with coolant it would have poured straight back out again. I know I am not the only one to have this problem.

might have already stopped - don't see them doing these and not the head gaskets
