What a pain in the ar@e. Trying to complete the v5 with dvla re engine change, filled in the details etc as u do. 3months later they return the v5 unchanged with letter saying I need a letter from the garage proving the engine is what it is. Stating which, where, when, how, inside leg measurements and all that. all this is news to me. What has really peed me off is this took 3months to tell me. As all stag owners out there, most have needed or will need an engine change at sometime, if u plan on doing it yourself as your a mechanic u will need a report from the AA RAC at your own expence as the DVLA wont believe you it is what you say it is. Nice

I was going to suggest you highlighted the engine number then took the car to the nearest DVLA local office. They can then check it. But not sure where your nearest 'local' office is. Probably Aberdeen?

There is a dvlc office in inverness might phone them mo nday thanks 4 that. I have a good relationship with the garage that did the change so paper work shouldnt be tooooo much of a problem other than me wasting time running after my own ar@e. If id known before hand saved loads of hassle.

I had this performance earlier this year when I notified the dvla of the engine number and capacity change on my PI estate when I fitted the stag engine.
I also sent notification of the engine number change in the TR (about2 years late) in the same envelope.
The engine number change on the TR came back without a query then a while later I got the standard letter back asking for written independant confirmation of the engine details
I wrote back saying it wasnt going to happen for a while as the car was undergoing a long term restoration and the engine change had been performed by myself with no garage intervention, but that the engine number and capacity had already been recorded on the TR logbook that had been sent to them in the same envelope
Much to my surprise the logbook was returned a few days later with the new details and it hadnt cost me anything

After an initial whirlwind of B.S. from the dvla, i finally got the updated V5 Docs with the new engine change details on it. Seems a letter from the garage was enough to satisfy them, If id replaced the engine myself then an unwelcome AA inspection would of been required at my own expence.

When i got mine the engine was a different serial number to the one on the log book and i just changed it in the changes section and it came back no problem. this was only last February so i don't know if anything has changed since then or i was just lucky. it doesn't help but maybe its worth just re applying.

I think you will be ok. You have replaced like with like, all that has changed is the engine number. just tick the box and fill in the new number and send it off. I have never had a problem. The alarm bells start to ring when it is a different type of engine or the capacity changes - i.e. if you go to the dark side:shock: and fit a Rover V8 for example.

If you are not going to use the engine that came out of the car why can't you just stamp the same number on the replacement engine who would know, that's what I would do,or is that against the law? Do you have to do this if you change out heads? This is complete nonsense glad I don't have to worry about that.
