    Oil drip

With the vagaries of only one Stag to bother about these days I have hopefully put the fire fighting behind me and have at last become pro-active.

I have had for as long as I can remember a persistent oil drip. Even after the engine was rebuilt the drip continued. There is no obvious visual sign of a leak, but I suspect it is coming from above sump level.More than one garage has tightened up the sump bolts in the past and also, after the car had stood idle in the garage fora day or two there is no further dripping.

Recently a Stag friend spotted a very small leak from one of the cam covers so yesterday afternoon I took them both off and replaced the gaskets. The cam covers are dry now, but the drip persists. I have run my fingers round the oil pressure switch and that is dry too. Please can any of you provide me with a list of the likely suspects!

Could be half moons on rear of cylinder heads, or the o ring at the base of the dissy.

Thank you all for your suggestions - please keep them coming. Al,I suppose you mean the rubber half moons that the ends of the cam covers sit on, and StagnJag by 'oil pressure sender unit' I imagine you mean the oil pressure switch. Both seem to be ok, so I shall move on to the other suggestions.

It's not the end of the world, but I alwayshesitate before parking the vehicle onanicely tarmacced drive in case the car leaves it's mark!

The one that most people miss and is often the cause, and is so easy to repair is the "O" ring on the oil pump for the pressure relief valve. LD parts supply them you need to make sure that you replace it with an original imperial size one, most motor factors only stock metric profiles now.
