Description field

What is the purpose of the description field when you post a new topic? Actually, I have now seen what it does, so please don't reply.

(It shows underneath the post title)

Sorry, when I said it shows underneath the post title, I realise that was ambiguous as the box for description (in a new topic) does show underneath the title box. But what you put in the description shows underneath the post title when you've posted the message (in the left hand column).
