    On the face of if this seems a good suggestion, but if Paddocks receive free advertising wouldn't all other advertisers want the same deal.

    Surely the money received from advertising goes a long way to funding production costs of our magazine. By placing adverts in the magazine suppliers etc are getting themselves known and this will inevitably gain them more business. Perhaps it could be suggested to advertisers that they may like to offer members a discount which would I am sure that if they did it wouldn't take long for the word to be spread therefore gaining them even more business. If SOC offer free advertising then the magazine could well end up being a few sheets of A4 paper in the form of an advertising bulletin. I am sure no member wants to lose their excellent monthly magazine. I would be interested to hear what other members think.

      All the points raised during this particular thread have relevance, and yes, advertising revenue is important. However, let's not forget that we all pay a subscription that should at least in part contribute towards the cost of magazine publication. It is not long since this was increased to cover additional costs so I assume someone did their homework. To put this in a little perspective, I noticed that in this months magazine I was treated to a reminder of the benefits of belonging to the SOC. An approved insurance scheme (tried it and couldn't get a better quote than my existing), Reduction in IAM membership, 15% discount on RAC (my insurance covers european recovery & breakdown) and 5% disount from vredestein tyres (this forum has already identified a much cheaper suppler to the public). So, what is the problem with allowing some of the suppliers to vie for the privilege of giving us some discount and being allowed a reduced rate for advertising? We all want to get our bumpers rechromed, our tyres replaced, our engines overhauled and bodies straightened out. What is wrong with getting some real competition going and some incentive for ourselves? I'd rather suffer another small rise in membership to benefit from supplier discounts, what say you?
