Just got back from ND. No it hasn't taken 5 days to drive back, we stayed in Bognor in a caravan! Unfortunately the caravan site was full of "cockney chav kids" ( no offence to any cockneys on here)with foul and abusive language, and that was just the girls:shock::shock:
Anyway, great weekend, enjoyed my lap around goodwood and meeting up with some more forum members, nice to put faces to names.
Kev, once more yours, Sharon and Adams' company was nicely appreciated, glad you got home okay.
Bob, John, thanks for all yours and your teams efforts to give us lot a weekend out!!
p.s also got a wave from 4 MGs' on the way home today!!!
Thank you for the positive comments about the craft tent, Charlotte (my Wife) was pleased to hear that it was appreciated.
Fontwell have just built a new stand which is having its official grand opening in the next days. It is still being finished, as are all the additional works around the site. We have been visiting the site on a weekly basis for the last month and were appalled by the state of it, due to builder's delays. A couple of weeks before the show we seriously thought that the weekend would have to be cancelled. We had to plan the exhibition area on the Friday as we were not told what space would be made available. The builders had not finished last weekend but Fontwell management had done wonders to make the site as presentable as possible. All this caused a knock on effect so jobs such as bush trimming were done maybe not at the most opportune time for us but Fontwell staff have to have the course ready, as they have a serious deadline to meet.
Didn't know it was on a flightpath, the only planes I saw were the Spitfire and Hurricance over Tangmere and the low flypast over us by the Dakota. We tried to get them all over us but with limited success.
The wet T shirt competition was a last minute addition to the programme, especially for you.
Hope that gives you some background and that these issues did not spoil the weekend.
John.
John
Please dont think my comments were in any way shape or formanegative criticism of the team responsible for organising National Day as that was not my intention. I know how hard it is to organise one of these events and people letting you down at the last minute or digging up the site as they had at Fontwell is not what you need on top of everything else.
It just seemed to us that the racecourse grounds crew were going out of their way to make things unpleasant for the campers. The 5:30am moving of the pipes and starting of the sprinklers which sprayed our tents and cars was not amusing, neither was having to dash through the water from the sprinklers to cross the path to and from the toilets. We were actually sat having a drink near the tent on Saturday evening and they turned them on which meant we had to move the cars and ourselves away from the water spray or get soaked. I personally dont mind the odd wet tee shirt competition but prefer not to take part as its not a pretty sight.
None of the above spoiled our weekend and I appreciate you giving us some background into the situation. Maybe we could get the Norfolk area to provide some bush trimming and a wet tee shirt competition for ND next year just to make us feel at home.
No, I did not take it as a criticism but just wanted to give you some background, as you have done to me. Now you have said more, I see your point. The ground crew may have been of the mentality that they will cause a bit of aggro under the guise of doing what they were told to.:X
Our contact was with their boss, the site manager, who was extremely helpful. Had we known of these issues we would have tried to resolve them. However I realise it is often too late.
I think your suggestions for next ND would dramatically increase the numbers
