Hi all, i am getting a bad wobble from the steering wheel at speeds of around 40mph. I've had the front wheels balanced but my mate thinks my steering rack has too much play in it! Yor thoughts please.
I am keeping an eye on this as I have had a similar but less serious vibration for some time. I have followed all the usual avenues tyres, balancing, balljoints steering rack, wheels all to no avail, it only occours from 50 to 70 so towing a caravan is a real pain. I cannot see any problems at all with the front wheels or suspension, so my next bet is to have the wheels balanced on the car, however that makes maintainance a pain so I am waiting to see what pearls of wisdom come out of here.
Get to it guys!

Red, obviously!!! Actually, i wanted inca yellow cos i think they look the part. I had an inca yellow BGT. ( ducks for cover.) Is this going to help with my "wobble?"
Is it me or are Quiller Triumph expensive?? £143 for a steering rack with £60 surcharge?
Why did you buy a BGT just to keep your ducks in? or were you looking for a shed and got confused?
As to the colour I have had two red stags a Mk 1 and a Mk2 with the vibration only on the Mk2 is this significant? or was it just that I could not discern it on the Mk1 over the rattling of the wheel trims. ( I would have kept the Mk1 as it was a lovely car but TWO red stags were a bit too much. And Mrs Chris Pnoticed I had bought another car, so it had to go)
More sympathy please!
£143.00 does not sound expensive to me but I have just paid £45.00 for new wiper blades on a modern car, and I am told that Audis are £80.00 plus! I would check what you get for the money and how much gurantee you get I paid £125.00 ten years ago for a Scimitar GTE rack and thats off a Granada!

Had a similar problem with my Stag wobbling, turned out to be the lower suspension bushes that were u/s and amplifying a minor wheel wobble, I must admit that in my experiance balancing the stag wheels is a tricky operation due to the size maybe? however since changing to the 15" minilites things seem a lot smoother!
PS 1 in 3 hills on Runswick run this year!!!
I changed all the bushes some years ago, so I have tended not to go down that route, however the stag wheel balance problem is, I understand not helped by the refurbishing of alloy wheels some of which can become very difficult to balance. I was thinking of going on to poly bushes asI replaced in rubber last time which in my mind is "about 3 years ago" but actually is 9 years ago!
I dont want to have minlite wheels as I have a suspicion I would look like a Chav!
Not wrried about Runswick I have a new clutch, and if it rains it will be dry in my House
