Hi. Can anyone let me know, how do you tell the difference between the Type 35 and Type 65 auto box convertors.

Hi Paul, the part numbers for the 2 convertors are:

Type 35 - 309168, Type 65 - RKC2115

Not sure if the above helps you though.

I found the same nubers in the book, I was thinking more on the physical side as they both look the same in the photos. I have one for sale and it would be nice to put the correct info.

I think a quick check is that the type 65 has a drain plug and the 35 does not. However, it's not unknown for the later pans to be retro fitted to the 35 so not 100%

I wonder if they are interchangeable? It could be just the ratios that are slightly different (1:1 to 1:2 type 35 and 1:1 to 1.91:1 type 65 according to my haynes)

Not sure if you got to the bottom of the difference between the type 36 & 65 auto box.

Just reading through the Rimmer Bros catalogue and saw this:

How to identify your gearbox:

1970 to1976 - to LD41993, Type 35 - output drive/propshaft is splined.

1976 onwards from LD41994, Type 65 - output drive/propshaft is flanged.
