Alan, as others have said it can be done without taking the car to pieces. There are two clips, and its the one that is close to where Julian used the screw and washer that is hardest to get to. Explore with a head torch and a small mirror and you should be able to discover where the clip goes. Then its a matter of working by feel. The strong GREEN clips are absolutely essential. The green clips were unobtainable for a few years and several of the major companies supplied the same clip as is used for securing the choke. You can fit them and you will rejoice that you can again control your heater. But when they have been used a few times they simply pop open and disappear to somewhere behind the heater. I had given up and put the whole thing down to poor design when Peter at LD mentioned the necessity for green clips on his website. A working heater in a Stag is a wonderful thing at this time of year.

Thanks to you all for the info, i started using suppliers, and thanks to your help and advice on many issues i'm finding that Peter seems to be the preferred supplier, i do order the parts i need from him now, and he is a nice guy too, this is what is so good on here, pictures speak a thousand words, the cable is loose on the top of the heater so it's clip first i think now, just in case the original has gone walkabout, i just hope we have good weather next week

      thanks

I found that I couldn't remove the green clips without breaking them so make sure you have a spare or two in case you need one. Nothing like starting a job and being held up by a missing small part!

            Thanks Dave,

I must admit, I never realised that you could take the dash out like that - I'd always disconnected all the instruments individually from the back.

            Cheers

            Julian.

The connectors are directly under the speaker opening so easy to get to, and that just leaves the odd wires for the glove box light and the dash dimmer - although I unbolted that so I didn't have to disconnect that either!
