My boot lid is too high

Thanks to Danny for helping me look over my new car and sort out a few things this evening.

One problem is that the boot lid is too high. We tried moving the catch down as low as it will go but the boot lid is still sitting too high. We removed the boot seal and the boot lid then lines up fine, but obviously I need the rubber seal!

Any ideas? I thought about visiting the breaker's yard and looking for a smaller section rubber seal which could hopefully take up less room , but still seal. Any other suggestions?

Hi Graham, Your best bet is to get a secondhand one from Les Clark, he regularly advertises on Ebay. I know of several SOC members who had similar probs to yours and the answer was an original used boot seal.

Hi Graham, it is a truism, that if you have good panel gaps, then the car has been restored, all original un-restored Stags, including mine, have indifferent gaps, my boot lid sits a tiny bit high, with the hinge adjustments at their extreme. Take out one of the hinge bolts and you'll find that the holes are big enough to allow adjustment. Sadly, that was 70s Leyland engineering. Martin.

Graham last trip home I fitted a new boot seal as my old one was well past it's best. Unfortunately as it was new and slightly bigger, the boot lid would not shut unless I gave it a hell of a bang and was concerned that I would break something.
Subsequently I moved the catch up a little.
Now the boot lid when closed sits slightly above the back wings. I think this is the lesser of two evils, as I would rather have no water going into my boot space.
However if anyone know's who supplys the original thickness of boot lid seal I would like to hear from them.

I have the same problem but when I took off the seal it was still too high. I have now got it right with the seal off but seal is still too thick.

Peter at LD Part has a seal which claims to be suitable; has anyone tried it?

I tried 2 different profiles from J P, they both got sent back and I reused the original.

i have the same problem, i have even fitted a smaller seal, still the same, i have tried about 4 now, all from diffrent suppliers and still have the same problem, i would say that my boot lid has flatened out with constant pressure being applied above the boot lock, but i'm proberbly wrong and dont think it could happen really FWIW

same here as well got a new seal but had to slam the lid and it sat too high then. Thankfully I had kept the old seal and have refitted that now even though it is not in the best of shape. Also slamming the lid /using the new seal for a year or so has obviously bent something slightly as boot lid is not as good a fit as it was but to be honest that is being a bit picky - it is just nice to have it shutting so easily again. New seal in the bin!
