should have explained better used two seperate cables but my cable (when i pulled it out )was two cables crimped into the rod. cut off one nipple end then thread down outer cable from the carb end do the same with the other cable
by the way cycle ones are thicker 1.5mm but still pass through the outer

Thanks for that but one of my outer cables is damaged but still may be savable, i will look into this...Steve

I'd have to go out to the garage and check, but aren't the choke cables single strand wire so they can push as well as pull? ISTR there isn't much of a return spring on the carbs for the choke.

Hello Ian the cables are not a single strand but many strands wound, but they still push and pull, the problem i had was that the cables frayed and jammed up inside the outer cable, the problem i had with the replacement cables was that the outer cables parted company with the crimp end exposing the inner cables during the fitting creating kinking which resulted in much the same problems as i started with.
The return spring on the carbs would not be strong enough to overide the choke cables themselves but is there to make sure the butterflys return to their closed position when the choke is off.....Steve

Tony Hart has them on his e-bay shop. Pricey, but guaranteed to fit and work.

I have just repaired a stag choke cable for my project car. The inner cables were OK but the fitting that goes into the choke knob was loose and wobbly on the shaft; I used JB-Weld to repair it. As the outer cable was kinked and frayed I straightened it and used heatshring sleeving to replace the frayed outer sleeve. Although I wont need both cables (Weber carb) I will use this one as I dont have a single cable that fits the Stag choke knob (is there one that anyone know about?).

Hello Chris not that I really know what I am talking about, but could you source or use stag choke cables and just cut the one you are not using off, that way the original knob or new stag knob will fit...sorry if that's a thick answer but as a proven bodger I would do that....Steve

                    Hi Steve
I would not butcher a stag cable like that!!

Its not a problem using the original cable (I just leave the unused one tucked out of the way). Its just that if, in the future I need a new cable the twin cables are expensive, so I would like to know if there is a single cable that fits the stag removable choke knob.

Ooops yes Chris I thought that butchering the cable was a bit drastic when i said it, I must get out of Hillman Hunter mode....Steve
