    coolant water

i am under the impression that it is now recommended to use distilled water with anti freeze instead of ordinary water, is that correct ?

That is correct. Use coolingwater with antifreeze and against aluminium corrosion. This will improve engine live.

Depends where you live. Some regions have 'hard' water where distilled or deionised water is recommended. Other areas have 'soft' water which is fine to use straight from the tap.Dave

Len, Dave's right all depends on where you live. We have pretty soft water here with no mineral deposits. You'll get a good idea what type of water you have by the condition of the inside of your kettle. If it's scaled up use ionised, distilled water. If your kettle is as clean as a whistle you should be ok with the water from the tap.

You're not wrong Steve. Our electric kettles are as good as new inside when they eventually pack in through over-use . No sign of any mineral deposits.

I used rain water straight from the sky when I changed the coolant last week. Collected it in plastic containers in the garden for a couple of days before doing the change.
