I haven't been to the classic version, but am a veteran of three normal Le Mans and each time I have camped on-site. From what's been posted above, prices have rocketed since I was there last in 2004 as I am convinced that the weekend camping pass was about £50-60 then.

Going to Le Mans is one of those things to do before you die, and I really ejoyed the first time I was there - especially the first night as the bars are thronging and there is such anticipation. The food isn't bad and quite varied, I think you ned to like gassy lager and toilets are ok.

In 2004 though I vowed not to go again unless I did it via a B&B / hotel outside, as I couldn't cope with the campsite on Friday night when you get absolutely no sleep due to people partying. I am all for a laugh and a lot of beer but they just don't stop and you tend to get a "party" every 10m or so who compete with each other and have the muisc so loud that the ground actually shakes. The next day you see all the knobs crashed out and a lot of them don't make it to watch the racing through the next night.

The last time we went, the crew who parked next to us seemed a good bunch and arrived in a new Range Rover and a new Porshe 996. Come 3am on Saturday morning our perception of them changes as they went totally beserk for the rest of the night night and, at some point around 5am, started up the Porker to try and drown out another group who were revving the nuts of a bike nearby. Imagine how we all laughed the next day when we saw that the 996 had now got a bent front end and wasn't driveable!
