I think I'll go for a separate gauge for the oil temperature in place of the pie style warning light cluster, replaced with small warning lights, like I did with my E-type, the more the merrier ! CIMG7910.jpg

Spoke to the guy who's got air con and Kenlow fan..............................Directly behind the grill he's got the air con fan then the air con unit then the Kenlow which fills most of the radiator and thats attached to the radiator, and somewhere in their he's got a oil cooler.

Thanks Roger,
It's gonna be a tight fit, but considering nowadays traffic jams constantly occuring, I don't want to take the risk driving without a back up, even if it means adding a front caravan to the Stag's grill to store all this junk !
I keep you posted and many thanks for the support.

The fittings my Smiths Oil temp gauge came with fitted into the sump plug if IIRC. The readings on the gauge varied quit a bit, even on a gentle sweeping bend on a motorway you get a different reading from a left or right hand curve! I latter fitted an inline adaptor for the oil cooler pipes for the gauge adaptor to connect into. On the out pipe before the stat rather than the return pipe.

I don't know if this will be of any help or not but the oil transfer housing has an unused boss.
I simply drilled and tapped mine for my oil pressure gauge sender (rather than using a 'T' piece) and I would have thought you could use it for oil temperature if you can get a sensor the same size as the pressure sender. That wouldn't be subject to the cornering differences described by MB.
Cheers

You're right, I didn't think about the possible cornering occured level differences, I'll go for the drilled and tapped boss in the oil transfer housing.Originally posted by jleyton View PostI don't know if this will be of any help or not but the oil transfer housing has an unused boss.

Hi Tony, congrats on joining - don't tell your better half !
. Just a thought, oil in the sump will be hotter and therefore provide a more accurate reading, IMHO the cornering temp change doesn't matter, you won't be reading it anyway, personally, I'd rather have it accurate. As I say - just a thought. Martin.

Bear in mind the Capillary type gauges have quite a large bulb for the sender end and oil transfer housing is quite close to the exhaust. An electrical sender might be smaller.

oil in the sump will be hotter …….hmmm not sure I agree with that
