    Head removal

    Has anyone in a 50 mile radius of worthing/brighton have a head removing tool i could borrow /hire, i would collect and return, willing to a leave a deposit, e.g. wife or front cruise lights,[only things ive got of value].Hopefully,John

    Sorry don't have one. Sounds like you have problems, sorry to hear that. Have you got as far as removing studs?

    Please give me a shout if you need an extra pair of hands.

      Thanks John, Ive got a oil leak from head, not urgent but need to fix it as i am hopefully off to Italy in the stag in june,John

        Where is the oil leaking from?
        The only oil gallery is at the front of the head above the water pump, usually it is the timing cover being removed to change the chains that causes leaks at the front end, or the half moons at the rear of the cam cover. Worth checking before removing the head

          Thanks Neil , will clean the vee and check the timing cover as its the only place i havent looked, could save a lot of time and swear words,John

            Head removal

            Check that your oil leak is not from the water pump. This fall I had an oil leak in the vee and eventually traced it back to the oil seal on the water pump shaft.

              Just brought this back to the top as i sealed the timing cover under the water pump as neil suggested ,NO LEAK, thanks Neil , and it might help some one else.John

                That's good news. Yet another spot on diagnosis from Neil.

                Years ago I had an Audi 80 with 1600cc VW engine, water was peeing out from behind timing belt cover. I checked that water pump was OK. Off with the head, replaced gasket. Water still peed out, then I saw the missing core plug.....Doh.
