My wife has just read my post about the hardtop sticker and has said that she hadn't realised that my life is so sad if that's all I've got to think about

Can anyone recommend a good (and cheap) shrink?

    Regards

Have any of you seen another Stag with the 350CI Chevy motor in? I still have very little info on this subject and was thinking of visiting the national show this year just to see if any one else has done this conversion.I have a book on how to give your MBG V8 power which is informative upto a point but covers mostly the Rover conversion.Do any of you know of any other books giving the 'how to do' methods of engine transplants?

        Andrew.

Hi Andrew, when I was looking at info for different engine conversions there is not a huge amount out there.I think Richard Lane is the man for the Chevy swop, there are links to him on here somewhere. Some of our fellow owners in Australia and NZ use the Lexus/Toyota V8 and I am still planning my Mustang/Rover V8 but that is not off the ground yet..Sam

Why not look at the 4.6RV8 out of a Range Rover, straight forward easy conversion. It is a lot lighter than the Chevy 350 and you would be able to up the power reasonably well. RPI Engineering in Norfolk area deal with RV8 upgrades and achieve higher outputs reasonably easily.

Your wife is right, size matters. 3.9RV8

The Brighton Stags chaps website,he told me its 12 years out of date.....a Rangy engine is a very good choice and may yet be the final answer, however I seem to have a bee in my hat about having a 350 Chevy and until I have proved beyond all reasonable doubt that it's a bad idea I will endever.

A "parts" Stag I picked up a while ago had a small-block Chevy engine in it. I've posted about it before - as a reminder, it looked like this under the bonnet:

The front springs had been replaced with much firmer units to deal with the insanely heavy Chevy engine, and overall it was a fairly tidy conversion.. well, for being one in the States anyway.. except for the exhaust manifolds:

The other side was just as good.

It actually ran just fine - it had a two-speed Powerglide automatic, standard diff, and original wire wheels. Given the stupid amounts of torque that thing was throwing out, I was flabbergasted to find that the drivetrain and (slightly rusty) wheels were still just fine.

That is a encouraging photo,as we now know a 350 will fit, just the technicalities to deal with now!

Also, no bonnet bulge.. although only the slimmest of slimline pancake air filters will fit, as I found out!
