What I'm trying to say is that the first time I put everything back together tightened it all up and that was pretty much that. Unfortunately I developed a leak about 10 months later so stripped the lot out again.
After resparaying my servo, I spoke to one of our mechanical technicians that I work with abroad who's right into his older cars, having previously rebuilt a GT6, and a few others.
What he suggested was that when I put everything back together, i.e. MC to servo and servo to the bulk head, it's wise to make sure that everything is centralised as much as possible, to avoid angular movement on the rod.
For example when you fit the servo complete with the MC, to the bulk head, make sure that all the 4 x holes are centralised as there may be a few milimeters of give around all the holes, which may cause a slight angular movement on the rod and associated gubbins. ( The 4 x holes on my bulkhead were slightly elongated and there was quite a bit of side ways and up and down movement when the servo was fitted loose and not torqued up )
Now I'm no mechanic, and I doubt if this guy was bull****ting but I followed this guys instruction making sure that all was fitted as perfect as I could with everthing mounted centrally.
hey presto I have not had another leak for a year with the same master cylinder.
It worked for me and it may be a thought for others.
Hope this makes sense, and may sound bizzar but it's true, but there again it may just have been a fluke

    Mike
I hear what your saying Mike but I bet when they were fitted new at the factory there wasn't so much finesse when installing the servo and brake m/c and daresay they didn't start leaking within a year.

The truth of the matter may be in what Martin is saying RE: new old stock rubbers...I was told by Paddocks that these M/C are brand new, so does that mean they ARE brand new "old stock" that have been lying around for a long time or recently manufactured "pattern" parts with old new stock rubbers???.
Having said that, Re: Marks comments...very true, my M/C has been on the car since manufactured( very probable )only decided to leak now, and only leaks a minute amount.

        Interesting thread.
I too replaced my master cylinder last year and I noticed that I was loosing a very small amount of fluid. Checked all round the car but there was no sign of it leaking anywhere, As I have just rebuilt engine and gearbox I thought I would look at the servo / master cylinder as I am assuming that it is going past the seals and being sucked into the manifold.
Any one got any tips on how to get that circlip out of the MC I've got all sorts of circlip pliers but none that will get into the bore and be able to compress and remove the clip, what the hell did the original tool look like or did the makers have aye-aye fingers?

        Paul.

Hi Paul, I have a pair of long old circlip pliers that I've ground down to get inside the bore, I've also managed it with two small good quality screwdrivers, with a blunt point ground on the end, this idea however, requires considerable patience Post me an addressed middle sized Jiffy bag and your welcome to borrow the pliers. Martin.

            Sukh,
The m/c they supplied me was a brand new item, supposedly made by Lucas (The originals were Lockheed).

I have just dug it out from the garage (and dropped it on my foot )

The m/c was in a sealed bag ;labelled "Lucas A Part of TRW Automotive. Lucas Aftermarket Kk, Tokyo Japan)
And the box it came in was labelled Lucas and TRW all over.
And a sticker on the end of the box said "County. Stag Brake Master Cylinder. Made in England"

So whoever made it, and wherever it was made, it certainly isn't original.

                        Hi Sukh
Mine came from Paddocks and it is one of the Lockheed ones they were selling a couple of years ago,so far no leaks.Previous to that I put a seal kit I got from PastParts in Bury St Edmunds in my original m/c it lasted about a year,so with the work involved in putting a seal kit on I give up on that idea.
Will try and get down to the Ace Cafe in June on Triumph Day.

Had to post this....old joke by Kevin Garrod I found whilst surfing the threads..

                              brake fluid

"I met a chap today who is addicted to brake fluid. He said it's not a problem, he can stop whenever he wants."

Sent J Paddocks an email RE: my new Master cylinder leaking after having only done less then 50 milles...purchased late March 2012. Well lets see what the reply would be. I dread to think if he sends me a replacement and that also leaks...the time, effort money on bleeding brakes will not justify the replacement. Also the time it took to paint my servo
