I think the thing about eBay and for new owners, is that they don't necessarily know how many places there are to source parts and so they feel they have to bid to kingdom come to find what they think is rare, but is in fact, not that rare at all.

Likewise, there are people who want to sell things that they found they didn't need, maybe in error, maybe because they have changed their minds about what they want to do. I suspect that these people end up out of pocket because they can't sell at original prices, will have to pay listing fees etc and because there are some savvy people who know exactly what they want, its importance and the value of it from other different sources.

It is all in the nature of auctions, was before eBay and ever will be.

          Pete (Isis) were they yours?

eBay is more mysterious to me by the day. There are things like the one Edd points out above but then there are things like the MK1 passenger door that I was watching last week started at £9.99, 3 days to go it goes up to £14.99 and now even though it didn't sell (or even get a bid) it's back on at £19.99. If it didn't get a bid at £9.99 how will it get one at £19.99?

I don't mind using it for some stuff but am very picky - I would prefer to use LD parts for anything safety related and use eBay to get the odd thing that takes my eye (ROM etc). People o get carried away without knowin what they are buying but also (and I'm certainly not saying it has happened in this case) there could be some schill bidding out there to push the price up on some items.

Hi paul , i did notice some newish sills on e bay with new jacking points too , maybe see you thursday afternoon if your near me !

Hi Ian , expecting my boot to come this week , i asked lots more questions in person after the bid and we came to the conclusion it will be sent to me and if i am not happy i will get a refund less postage both ways !
The trouble is with good boots is you are left wondering where they come from , a good boot is usually a sighn of a nice together car , there is a tahiti blue one on e bay now (typical lol ) but if someone went to the trouble of painting it why wasnt it fitted , its prob because it was a poor fit and some other person will be lumbered with it! Like me ( total beginer )
If it fits i will post picture if it doesnt i will be very quiet and stew for at least a month
              Take care all , Edd

                Hi Edd,

I ask as I was in a similar situation some time back. I paid £170 for what outwardly looked a cracking boot lid.

                here's the thread, http://www.stag.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?11823-What-is-under-your-new-paint-job.

                Best of luck with it.

                Ian.

Thanks for that Ian that was a interesting post , sometimes i remember as a kid being in my dads stag and i wonder if any slightly naughty kids ever were tempted to surf the car on its boot thus making indentations !
That panel has no real curvature like a wing has to make an arc of strength thus making its very prone to damage as its almost flat well you understand what i mean i,m sure !i can just see someone sat on it with both feet on the rear bumper explaining some of the bent bumpers out there too !
I am not looking forward to bare metaling each panel on mine as a acid bath etc is not within my budget so its all elbow grease !
                  Regards edd

This is going to sound like a defensive reply. Yes the covers were mine, but I can't help it if I put it on at 99p and a buy it now at £55 and then they go way over the top. I was aware of what people would have to pay if they went to Aldridge and purposely pitched the price at less than that and I based by P&P on their prices too. In fact I will be sending them special delivery with insurance for about 25% of what I indicated and I am reimbursing those that will have paid too much for the P&P. I put my dials on at 99p one of them went for over £20. Why? I would have been glad to have got a fiver. One thing I always do though, is guarantee a 10% donation to a charity, I foot that bill and it is one of the ways I can afford to give. I didn't interfere with the bidding process. I had a query from a guy in the States, I told him he must do the research to make sure the part was right for his car. He wisely stayed out of it. I may have made a modest profit compared to Aldridge prices, but actually I made quite a big loss from my original source.

                      Hi Pete,

As we discussed last night 'caveat emptor' applies. If they are happy to pay the price so be it. It isn't for you to worry about. The fact that they were too stupid to use the buy now button is there own look out.

I assume some macho bidding gene hits some people and they get carried away.

                      Cheers
                      Paul

Can't understand why seller details all the work he has done but shows photos of beforehand.
