Thanks Steve, I'm watching about 10 of the things on ebay :-) they have all a large number of bidders so no bargains I dont think but around £80 I guess as you paid for yours. I note from your pic that your using the tonneau bit too, I was thinking of removing that but it looks like you can still use it. Might still DIY but have little time to mess about and the Audi one does look smart. Thanks for pointing out the shortcomings, I doubt I'd use it (or the car) much at night anyway but was wondering what they do to rearward visibility in daylight - when your looking in the rear view mirror, it must reduce the visibility I'd have thought but they're very common on convertables so cant be that bad.

I bought an A4 one and although the vertical part looks like it was made for a Stag, I wanted the horizontal bit to fit a bit better. I made up two fillets from plywood and covered them as you can see in the pic. However, I am not too happy with the end result (can't erect hood with screen in place and it sits too proud) so hope to make a soft cover this year.

Hi Julian, thanks for your reply, now that's very close to what I was thinking of doing with the A4 one, using the vertical part only and removing the tonneau part altogether, then making my own tonneau cover from some black vinyl I have similar to many tonneau covers already on the market. How does the A4 version secure to the car, I can see the straps at the top but not sure how you've secured it at the bottom? My current home made perspex one has a lateral bar with bolts facing down going into the holes on the hard top locking plates and was thinking of a similar arrangement to secure the A4 version.

Hi Bernard,

I used to have it secured with a small bungee strap going from the centre down to the ash tray mount but then realised it was not really doing anything as the top velcro straps were doing it all.

I'll think of something else when I make a soft cover.

Julian, couldn't ou secure your new soft cover ( when you make one) under the tonnue strapped to the rear seat support?
