The spit broke a shaft , stags can have the nuts over tightened on the flange on the rear drive shafts , its a fine thread and it pulls the stud out of the aluminium arm, the shaft doesnt tend to break.
Not the drive shaft, but the stub axle can shear. Lost n/side rear wheel at 70mph several years ago. The stub had sheared clean off leaving just the brake back plate to carry the load as the car sunk to the road. The drum was still attached to the wheel, which I eventually found in the middle of a ploughed field having bounced over two hedges and through the farmer's front garden:shock::shock:.

My Son, Richard and I had a great day out at Prescott, he nows wants me to leave him the Stag in my will. One of the many highlights of the day was a ride up the hill in Tony Hart's racing Stag, awesome!! The day made even better by meeting all you forum members, there is a great rapport amonst Forum members which is an asset to the club. Yes Kevin, yours was the loudest Trimph V8, I have video footage of you leaving the start line in front of me, my camcorder needs a new mic now.

        Looking forward to Brands!!!
