    Lights High Beam.

    Hello There.
I have just bought a MK2 Stag and when I put the lights onto high beam nothing happens the main beam is fine but high beam there is nothing. Can i change the bulbs or is it a sealed system. Thanks Kevin

This really does depend. AFAIK they should have replaceable Halogen bulbs, but a number of cars will inevitably end up with sealed beam lights one way or another (mine had all 4 sealed beam when I bought it).

If they are sealed it will generally say towards the outer diameter of the glass, in addition to when you take the units out . In your case however (going by the fact that both are not working) I would say that you have a wiring issue, probably dirty contacts My first port of call would be to check for voltage at various points and work back (the connectors at the front of the car for the headlights can corrode/oxidise leaving you with no lights, or intermittent lights).

Under the ssteering column shroud there's a blue wire that connects from the ignition switch (I think) to the column stalk switch that powers the main beam, both flash and main. It may be that has become disconnected therefore no power is getting to the switch. May also be a fuse issue?

I am having lighting issues at the moment and I have discovered that the fuse holder contacts are not making proper contact with the fuses. Each time I switched on the lights, something different happened - one headlight, no headlights, one dip etc. . A bit of a scrape with emery paper on the fuseholder contacts solved the problem - for now that is. So, might be an idea to pull the relevant fuses (check that they are not blown) and put a meter across them to check that there is 12 volts either side of the fuse, with the lights switched on. If all is well there, then ChasR's checks are next.

I had exactly this on another Triumph, the problem turned out to be the contact in the dipswitch. I cleaned it up and it all worked properly, if you have no voltage at the lights it could be this.

I had the same problem, it was the full beam contacts on the stalk switch. A clean and spray with WD40 cured it.

Most likely as others have said check the light stalk, the dip works through a small set of contacts in the switch somtimes they do not make contact and sometimes its just dirt etc, you can check this out by removing the cowl and very carefully move the switch and look to see if the contacts are touching clean them and see if you can get them to touch by adjusting the contact it does'nt take much I had to buy a replacement.

              cheers Stuart
