John - Maureen's vocal chords are permanently paralysed due to a bungled thyroidectomy operation. For 12 months she could hardly breathe and couldn't eat, and in the end had to have a "hole" lasered in one of her vocal chords to allow air and food to pass through. Having at first lost over 3 stone, she has now put that back on again and can breathe and eat more normally, but can only speak in whispers. The bungled operation is one reason why I am reluctant to go under the knife here myself.
PS. Likely to be in Chester soon as that is where the specialist lives I am coming over to see.
