Yep, you're right - it was all a bit of a mess under there back then

However, that was when I first bought that mini-ramp to help me do big ends & mains and whilst I was doing that I took the opportunity of tidying up all of the front end (including knocking out the worst of those dents on the cross member)

    Cheers

      Hey Julian,

I recall you and I doing the same thing at the same time. However, all my bits (crossmember, rack, struts, discs, etc.) are still on the shelf waiting to be fitted........... I'll get around to fitting them one day...

And I thought it was just me who never seems to get round to doing the things that I need to

Following a recommendation from Julian i purchased a lifter, like this it gives 29" to the bottom of the cross member, just trying to find some realistically priced axle stands that will reach, just for additional safety.

Hi, i have just drained the oil prior to replaceing the "o" rings on the pump and transfer housing to try to stop the leak,i raised the car on the lifter to about 8" and removed the plug, when the oil stopped i lowered the lifter and oil flowed again, so it would seem its best done with the car level, not easy of course with ramps as you cannot move it with no oil in it! now a question, should i apply a sealant to the "o" rings when i refit the pump and transfer housing? all advice welcome
              thanks Derek

No sealant needed. In fact, using any could put some where you least want it - inside a small dia oilway. Just nice and clean surfaces.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Yep, I did mine without any sealant.

However be careful as the O rings in the pump look similar, but aren't

                  Cheers

One other thing, if the engine is cranked to build up oil pressure, it will be pulling fuel in.....and may cause flooding / bore washing so 'popping' the inertia switch is a good idea, as well as taking out the king lead.

Yep, good point, although I prefer pulling the distributor and driving the oil pump via the drive shaft with a socket on an electric drill.

You'll build up pressure and everything will get lubricated without any risk of unlubricated metal to metal contact. It's worth packing the oil pump with vaseline to assist priming it if it's been in pieces.

                      Cheers
