    Gunson Trackrite (laser wheel alignment)

This is the laser version to set up the front wheel alignment for the DIY car enthusiast. Cheapest I've found is around £72 plus postage.

Has anyone tried it, is it any good? I have a few classics and whilst the checking or tracking is free at most tyre places, fixing it is £35 plus VAT. I know on one of my cars it is out, so I will almost get the money back immediately But only if it is any good!

I have a few Gunson products and they are all good and in fact the company has been very helpful with instructions and spare parts. But they can still produce a lemon

So, any experience please (or maybe one near Trowbridge I could borrow to try it.....)

    Cheers

I could not see a laser gauge on Gunson's website. Exactly which product is this?

I have a gunsen trackrite, it's about 10 years old but has no lasers. It has sliding plates that you drive over. It works very well but is a faff and takes a lot of driving back and to and spanner fiddling on your back

I have the laser one. It works very well as long as the hardstanding you use it on is nice and flat....

Like I said if you want to borrow them you know where to come.

I also have the non laser one, but have never used it. The alignment is measured in degrees, whereas all the manuals state it in mm or fractions of an inch. So, how do you convert one to the other?

Offer noted with thanks. They are a tough piece of kit, but, as I know to my cost they don't work well after being the meat in a Fiat 128/brick wall sandwich when the brakes fail....

Don, do you mean like in my Picture, if so once you have taken the reading in degrees you set the calculating wheel to the rim size then read off on the dial by looking at the line in degrees that aligns with the Metric or Imperial scale. Simples

It's not easy to find, but this is what I was referring to at the start of this thread:

Yes, I've had one for about a year. Works very well and seems quite accurate. Used it on my Stag, my Landy (big wheels), wife's MX5 and a couple of 106's with no issues. Seems to do what it says on the tin. When I got mine they did say they were working on a four wheel alignment checking system as well. Originally it was an independent company and not Gunson's who sold it so I guess Gunson's must have bought them out.

That's the one. Identical to the Gunsons' one. Fractionally cheaper on eblag.

                            Cheers

Wow, very impressed. Now where's my eBay account?

Ps the sliding plate one is easy to use you drive over it until the dial reads zero.
