I was under the impression (or from what others have said) that the Gunson's TrackRite is useless if your tyres are worn unevenly (in a number of cases, basically if you do not have brand new tyres). Any idea about this chaps?
I too am looking into a tracking device of sorts, instead of string and stands....

Back in the day, the dealership I did my apprenticeship in had a professional set of "Slip gauges" like these DIY ones,
They work well by reading the rolling forces of each wheel but can give false readings if not used correctly, I have no knowledge of these Gunson ones but with the equipment I used years ago you had to roll the vehicle on to them as opposed to driving it on to the gauge, this would also avoid any adverse reaction from the brakes which could affect the reading. After adjustment it was necessary to roll the vehicle and back off and on again to recheck.
Regards worn tyres, I can't see that being an issue. the best thing about this method of tracking is it compensates for any slight wear in steering joints.

Milothedog,
No, mine is the Trakrite referred to above in Grumpy2's post. I read the instructions years ago and just put it back in the box.
I quite fancy getting one of those laser devices.

whats WRONG WITH STRING AND STANDS????????
I was quite surprised on a recent visit to ProDrive (a very hightech motorsport production facility for those who dont know) to see the mechanics setting-up a mini, WRC1, a current rally championship running car by just this method.
steve
P.S. have an authenticated bumper off said car, from portugal rally 2012 for sale if anyone interested
