Havent used VR1 one and tempted to do an oil change at weekend as I have been told the oil holds its oil pressure better when hot for some reason than other oils. Must have a secret ingredient

It's no secret Andrew, ZDDP, it's zinc based. Martin.

Andrew,
I've got it now, it is excellent, no noticeable pressure drop from cold and importantly stays very clean. You can book on line with he code and collect - I did just that
Cheers!
Got my VR1
Decided to change oil as my oil pressure differed on my replacement Smiths oil pressure gauge to my old one which gave me 50psi plus and with this new one I get just under 50. I knew that I had put 3 in 1 oil down the oil feed pipe I case I had an air lock so for this oil change I decided to disconnect the pipe both ends and blow it through with an airline.
All back together Nd no leaks but from cold, the psi just about goes over 50 psi
How can it be so low? Is it because the pipe has air in it? Was so expecting 65psi as I had before the oil change when revved
Any comments appreciated
Hi Mike
I totally agree with you but for some reason I am getting a lower reading since oil change. Must be air lock. May be giving it a run tomorrow will sort it out.
If I hadn't of buggered up my old gauge I would be going through this even if it was brand new Smuths one over reading slightly.
Cheers
Andrew
Curious thing about capilliary oil pressure gauges, without an air lock, they won't work, you do not want engine oil in the gauge, there is no mechanism to bleed them, and I personally do not want to risk hot oil on me feet. Martin.
I am going to slowly undo the pipe on the back of the gauge whlst engine is running until I see oil coming up pipe.
Will send a forum post from A&E to let you know how it went
Why not take the lead off the coil and just spin the engine over, at least it wont start. I'll be interested to hear / see the results as I have wondered in the past if it would give a better reading!
