Hi Sid from another ex-works mechanic!

Paid far too much for my Java one in real terms, and have the pee taken constantly over the colour.... I think the latest comment from this month's Stag Mag about my car from Roger is "expendable"....
All said in jest - I'm really not one to comment...

Welcome coolsid - sounds like you are approaching your forthcoming purchase the right way - with your head!!

One question about the Stag in winter, i have a garage to work on it but it will have to live outside, whats the best way, is it take soft top of and fit hard top, then when better weather comes put soft top back on.
      Hi coolsid,

Welcome to the forum. I get to the Lakes every month, often in the Stag, so if you want to meet up let me know. Your nearest SOCco-ordinator is John Whitaker and he can be reached on 01200 441107 for advice and help.

The Stag is not the best car to leave outside in the winter, but if you have no choice, then by all means fit the hardtop and buy a car cover to keep the worst of the rain from going where rain ought not to go.

There's a bonus here...you don't have to remove the soft top to put the hard top on. It remains tucked away behind the rear seat. However, the hard top is a bu**er to lift and locate so you will need another pair of hands to help you get it on and off. Not too much of an issue if you are doing it only twice a year.

      cheers

      Ray

Thanks for all the advice and the welcome, i will take my time and look at a few.

Been watching ebay but dont fancy buying off there, Piston Heads and Auto Trader are probably the best bet.
        Sid,
Don't forget the back pages of the SOC magazine (when it arrives ). There are usually plenty in there and, being owned by SOC members, should be some of the better ones. No guarantee though. I looked at three from the magazine when I needed another one recently and bought the third one I looked at. All asking the same money, but only one was worth it. One of the others fetched £2k less on eBay than he advertised it for in the magazine and, in my view, even that was too much.

Thanks for that, are water leaks still a big problem with soft and hard tops?

I thought you shouldn't leave the soft top folded away for long periods?

I found on another site, a pulley and winch set up, so you can winch thehard top in the roof space ofyour garage, which ihave enough space in my roof

            Thanks

If you can do that why don't you leave the stag in there?

BTW unzip the rear window when you stow the softtop then you can leaveit down as long as you like without damaging it.

              Cheers Steve
