Lopsided suspension

Rather than go through the time consuming bother of spring compressors, when taking apart, I initially remove the top damper nut under the rubber dust cap and then jack the car up, this way the spring unloads itself gradually as the damper rod falls out of the top bush.

That sounds like a brilliantly simple idea - I wish I'd thought of that before I did mine.

I guess the actual operation may vary slightly from car to car, depending upon the spring etc. Does anybody know if it's safe to do it this way on a Stag ?
