    Thanks

    Hi Colin,

to get the best out of the Holley you need the 7deg adaptor, I had the HRS one originally but the engine ran no where near as well as with the inclined plate. The low rider filter will though fit with both the HRS and inclined adaptor.
    Cheers,

I added a 7 degree wedge on top of HRS adapter.
          Essential in my opinion.
Could then fit a secondary screw in jet plate, and better clearance for the auto kick down cable.
Then used a K&N drop base air filter.
So was win, win and win for me!

          Cheers,
          Mike

Sorry I couldn't find the other half of that spacer, it may have been chucked out in the house move. However you can buy the normal flat phenolic spacers for Holley carbs on eBay. I did a quick search and found one uk seller and lots of USA ones, a 1" one cut at 7 degrees will do. I think I hand sawed it and then flattened by sanding on a flat surface when i dis mine. Wasn't too difficult. Regards. Jon

Maybe a daft question but how did you measure and mark the 7 degree line?

Thanks for looking by the way.

Yep, I think that's probably the way I did it a while back, although I guess you could also place the spacer on the manifold adapter and use a spirit level to mark the cut line. Regards. Jon

My schoolboy protractor probably isn't going to cut the mustard. I did think I could offer it up against my other (Monarch) manifold that has the 7 degree plate attached and mark it up from that. I see that Real Steel have a 5 degree plate so maybe getting one of those might be better than nothing?

I was just talking to Colin (Surreyone) and he has bought the Lowrider without a spacer. I pointed out that Real Steel advise on their website that a 1/2 spacer is required if using it on a 390 Holley although he said that Monarch did not advise that.

I recall reading somewhere that the Holley requires a certain space above the top of the carb to operate within spec. and that this is the reason to use the spacer. Can anyone confirm that is the case? I may have a look on the Holley website.

The problem though is that if he adds in the 1/2 spacer (BY9340), it might cause under bonnet clearance problems although I suggest maybe he tries that first.

I wonder if the Lowrider is really the best filter for use with the HRS adapter, but not sure if there is an ideal one. I think the Edelbrock #1002 is OK if you remove the bonnet pad & bar.

                        Hi Chris

I have fitted the 1/2 in spacer (having first Dremeled the Holley a bit to make it fit) on the advice of RealSteel (no 7 deg plate) and it is tight. I haven't shut the bonnet yet but I think with the bar and pad removed it will be fine.

When I got the car it was fitted with the filter you show below which in my car was just as tight-the bar has been moved and the pad cut but the bonnet still touched the top of the filter. I'm wondering if the engine mounts on mine are fitted correctly.

While in the garage yesterday, if anyone is interested, I came across a 2" phenolic spacer for 4 barrel Holley carbs that can be cut down to any angle or size , it is a 'bakelite' material.
I forgot I had this, it is brand new and comes with short and long studs and nuts. Could be used to make 7 degree spacer if you want to do your own cutting (hand sawing is possible). Surplus to requirements now. Regards Jon
