Correct, air being compressible, it will reduce the rate of change of pressure that can be indicated, (i.e. act as a damping agent) but frankly, I don't believe these types of gauges are capable of fast responses anyway. As you rightly say, air or not in the tube won't affect the actual pressure indicated in a steady state.
Hence my overall conclusion - it just doesn't matter, lol. After all, the gauges on a compressed air line are quite happy on it.

I consider myself well and truly told off and I am going to give myself a dam good spanking. I apologise Steve because you seem to have a good following. From my point of view in the years I have been on this forum there has never been anyone that has irritated me so much (we have never even met) perhaps that's just as well, maybe its the way you write, no humour and like a teacher lecture to a class of numpty's.
