The most unusual hobby I have ever heard of is the Basingstoke Roundabout Appreciation Society.

It was featured on a Tv programme about unusual hobbies. A group went out in a minibus to visit roundabouts they even had the tee shirts. They even did a calendar that sold 100,000 copies This guys wife was absolutely stunning why he left her at week ends I do not know perhaps she could not cook . As I told my son you can go a lot longer without sex than you can food, it does not matter what she looks like as long as she can cook. During the interview this guy showed us all the different types of roundabout there were. Some just grass some floral ones one even had a church on it they all had different names . I suppose I could see why he did it . The later calender had a windmill on the front cover on a roundabout to attract more female members. . Takes all sorts as we are finding out now on this thread look at the number of posts still it keeps us off the streets when we are not driving our pride and joy

On the subject of roundabouts - I made a post about a new one in Los Cristianos some time ago, as Councils over here are very proud of making a feature out of their roundabouts and try to outdo each other each time they build a new one. For a Country that gets hardly any rain = they do like to use water - see former post and youtube link.

Milo , Just returned from a 500 mile round trip with the stag and caravan , on the way back we caught the traffic leaving a show , it was like driving in the seventies ! Atki borderer , ERF B & C series ERF LV cab ,AEC Mercury, Leyland Cruiser, triumphs , zephyrs austins Early Scania , Volvo F88 , motorbikes and buses bit spooky after we spoke about old vehicles , was on a road my grandad used to drive regular and my dad both in wagons Kept waiting to see then comming over the hill or round the corner and they have both been dead a long time .

I bet you had a grin from ear to ear. I'll have to have a look for it again, but I found a video on You Tube once with some bloke in a Borderer unit fitted with a Rolls engine I think chasing it through the gears. brilliant to watch and the sound track was amazing as I recall.

Or even Planespotters! I remember being hastily handed the controls on an aircraft to taxi to the hardstanding when my colleague went haywire trying to scribble down the tail numbers of different airliners on the pans!

Hello Drew reminds of the time when i worked for British gas, i had the misfortune to work with a chap who was a plane spotter, we would be driving along then screeeeech... binoculars out pad out scribble scribble this went on all day, we were working close to Stansted airport so there was no shortage of targets, this was really p-----g me off, then on one particular screech and scribble session this chap jumped out the van and dived into some bushes i assume to relieve himself, so while he was gone i opened his precious book and added lots of numbers of my own i even added words like twat, dick and donk plus others (rude) to the collection, he never even noticed during the 3 weeks i was with him cruel but funny...Steve

A Rolls Royce knocking away like that takes me back to an old foden I used to drive , Jeez that used to rattle , see the Atki has a road ranger gearbox , The gears are back to front one is right and back , two forward , three forward left , these took a bit of getting used to .
