I have been driving since '75 and tend to keep cars for a while. "Classic" status is supposed to start from when they get to about 20 years old isn't it? and just about the only one I have had that doesn't seem to have much of a following now was a Pug 305. The shortest I ever had a car was an '83 XR3i for 9 months back in '84 (I didn't like how it handled) which I replaced with an '83 Cavalier 1.8 SRi. that I kept for 10 years. If I could have any of my cars back again my top three would probably be my :

    1. '68 TR5
    2. '65 998cc Morris Mini Cooper
    3. '72 Mk 3 Cortina 2.0 lit GT

More recently I regret selling my '97 BMW M3 Evo in 2006, which I started to think looked dated. I wanted something fresher but didn't need the money from the sale to get what I wanted, so just and let it go for silly low money. Soon after values dipped and the cars got into the hands of chav's, but prices have bottomed out now and I can only see well looked after, non-messed about with cars rising in value.

I did this and regret it, with our Lexus IS300 Sports Cross, it only had 14K on it when I PX'd it for the 407 Coupe. the Lexus was a fantastic car, loaded with kit and despite being a 3L still returned 25 mpg in town.

Here's a few of my Blasts from the past
They are scanned on so quality is a bit hit and miss
First car bought when I was 13 from a neighbour would had been left it as part of his deceased uncles Estate
One owner 45K miles 1955 I bought for £50 of my Potato Picking earnings! Those were the days. I kept the old log book with it too. Valve radio it was built like a tank and took some lifting the gauge of steel was double the thin jobs later!! It had the 2.6 Litre straight 6 engine similar to the Healey which I managed to strap twin SU's to
Spent years restoring it even taking bits to school to do in Metal work and my Dad had an engineering business so I leant to work lathes grinding machines and anything else I needed It was grey and very tatty when I started. We painted it in Old English White which looked the business with the red interior..All the chrome was re done we even actually had the flying A re cast in brass which we hand finished and chromed as the originals were made out of that rubbish Mazak which pitted badly so was effectively scrap!
Sold to my Dad when I wrote of my Crayford Cortina as I needed money for the replacement! He sold it some years ago.

Then I bought the 1600E The chap at the local Garage told me it had the lotus suspension set up fitted but frankly I don't know for certain but it did ride nice and low and went like the clappers or at least it did for me
Fitted a CB radio and off I went for a the next year

Then the Next Gen Cortina attracted me in 2 litre GT form had some fun in that too and learn the art of changing the camshaft re sprayed it added a new vinyl roof

This was followed by a number of other fords but my two favourites were the Capris!
First the 2litre which I re-painted in fetching eighties colours Roman Bronze and some creamy colour and added some wheels etc etc. I could never leave them alone and then the 2.8i early four speed job went like the proverbialoh and me with the Miami Vice Style jacket

Then I went Hot Hatch and bought the fist Astra GTE this one had the Irmscher kit so looked very different and I changed the wheels but cant find any pictures of it then
This was all in the space of about three to five years I think and I normally had two or three other project on the go. Like a GT6 1275GT Mini and a mark 1 spitfire which my sister ended up driving and wrecking

I have really enjoyed looking back at these and my god it makes you wonder where the time go's!
I love the 60/70/80's cars I am thinking I had best wrote up a list now as I keep remembering others!

Hope you enjoy looking at them
                  Glyn

That looks very much like a Bristow S92. Is that the hanger at Scatsta?

I bought a Vaux Calibra in 1995, and ran it for about 5 years. No rust, never missed a beat. 160k miles and still on the same clutch etc. Great until some joyriders wrecked it. Tried another Cally after that but it was not the same.

I think they still look good, and should have classic status but the insurance Cos dont want to know.
