    Nick,

I must have the 'exception'. Mine starts first kick of the starter, same as my manual did. I don'tevenneed choke in the mornings inthis warm weather.

Having said that, I will probably be calling the 'home start' service this morning

Why should an auto be any different to start than a manual???

Going back to the original posting.

I asked Luminition, who sell both the opto and magnetic ignitor systems, which was the best for the Stag. They said the opto, as the magnetic will not reliably fire a V8 at high revs, it is fine for a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. I can see the logic in what they say but is there any discernable difference in normal driving? How many of us regularly rev the nuts off our engines.

Mine (Auto)starts first touch of the key now I have serviced the carbs and set them up properly. Found one carb sucking 1/3 more air than the other! Tick over now set and both carbs sucking the same amount of air.

I think most would drive their cars without stressing the motor too much so yeah magnetic unit would not be an issue i guess. From what I have read starting problems either hot or cold have always been a bit of an issue with stags. Could always do an engine transplant with injection and do away with the problems

Hi Spin what do mean starting problems, every Stag and Triumph for that matter I have owned have started first touch of the key, that is unless there's a problem!

I have lumination electronic ignition which perform's very well.

Hi Stuart, Not firing and just turning over without the hint of firing. I am taking a new look atthe problemtomorrow. I am going to check to see if there is a good 12v on the coil cos someone said that with the ignition switches, now they are getting older, there can be a voltage drop across them with internal resistance etc. I have not had the stag long so I am still working through the issues. The previous owner had a number of mechanics look at the problem without ever finding out what the problem was. Spin
